It’s often used interchangeably with names like: Onyx for black with white bands; Agate for banded varieties; Jasper for more opaque, solid colors; Carnelian and Sard for red and brownish-red types; Chrysoprase for green chalcedony; oriental markets also call dyed chalcedony “Jade”, even though it has nothing to do with actual Jade/Jadeite/Nephrite.
