Amethyst Information
Amethyst is known as a stone of protection and calm, which makes it a natural symbol for retreat and introspection. In the context of hibernation, it can be a reminder of the importance of pulling away from overstimulation to achieve mental clarity. Amethyst is often recommended for times of reflection, where letting go and conserving emotional energy is crucial for renewal. This aligns with the logic of hibernation: focusing on what can restore your spirit rather than extending it beyond its limit.Amethyst captivates with its stunning purple hue, a variety of quartz that has fascinated people for centuries. Ranging from light lavender to deep, rich purple, amethyst forms in geodes, where mineral-rich volcanic rock interacts with water. As a result, the crystals grow in breathtaking formations. Its vibrant color and unique structures make it a popular choice for jewelry and decorative pieces.Fashion and Jewelry
Jewelry designers often incorporate amethyst into rings, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, thanks to its striking appearance. The rich purple color complements various metals like gold and silver, adding elegance to any ensemble. Consequently, many people wear amethyst to enhance their outfits, whether for casual gatherings or formal events. Additionally, its versatility allows it to pair beautifully with other gemstones or stand out as a statement piece. Moreover, its affordability and accessibility contribute to its growing popularity.History, Mythology, and Symbolism
Amethyst boasts a rich history and profound mythological significance. Ancient cultures believed it possessed protective qualities, warding off negative energy and promoting clarity of mind. The term “amethyst” derives from the Greek word “amethystos,” meaning “not intoxicated,” reflecting the belief that this stone could prevent drunkenness. Furthermore, many cultures view amethyst as a symbol of peace, tranquility, and balance, making it a favored stone for meditation and spiritual practices.Mining, Production, and Applications
Miners extract amethyst in several locations worldwide, including Brazil, Uruguay, and South Korea. They carefully remove the crystals from geodes and volcanic rock to preserve their natural beauty. Once mined, artisans cut and polish the stones into various shapes, preparing them for jewelry and decorative applications. In addition to adornments, amethyst finds use in holistic healing practices, where it promotes emotional balance and reduces stress. Ultimately, with its breathtaking color and rich history, amethyst remains a cherished gemstone across cultures and generations.
Care Guide
Handling
- Gentle Handling: Amethyst is a relatively durable stone, but like all semi-precious stones, it can be scratched or cracked under pressure. Handle the earrings by the hooks rather than the beads to minimize the risk of damage.
- Avoid Dropping: Although amethyst is not overly fragile, dropping the earrings onto hard surfaces can cause chipping or cracking. Be mindful when taking the earrings off or putting them on.
Cleaning
- Amethyst Beads: To clean the amethyst beads, wipe them gently with a soft cloth to remove dust and dirt. If needed, slightly dampen the cloth with water and carefully wipe the beads. Never soak the earrings, as excessive moisture can affect both the beads and the hooks. Afterward, dry the beads with a soft, dry cloth.
- PVD-plated Stainless Steel Hooks: Clean the stainless steel hooks with a microfiber cloth. For a deeper clean, use a mild soap solution and a soft brush to remove any buildup or grime. Always dry the hooks thoroughly to avoid water spots or tarnishing.
Storage
- Safe Storage: Store your Amethyst Earrings in a soft cloth pouch or a jewelry box to avoid scratches or pressure that could damage the beads. Keeping them separate from other jewelry will prevent contact with harder materials that might scratch the surface of the amethyst.
- Avoid Moisture: While amethyst is more resistant to moisture than some other stones, it’s still best to avoid prolonged exposure to water. Store the earrings in a dry place to ensure the longevity of both the beads and the PVD-plated stainless steel hooks.
Chemical Exposure
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Amethyst can be sensitive to chemicals. Avoid exposure to perfumes, lotions, or cleaning products, as these substances may damage the surface of the stone or the PVD coating on the hooks.
- Swimming and Showering: Remove the earrings before swimming or showering to prevent exposure to chlorine, saltwater, or soap, which can cause deterioration over time.
Maintenance
- Regular Inspection: Periodically check the earrings for any signs of wear, such as chipped or cracked beads. If damage is noticed, discontinue use to prevent further harm.
- Cleaning the Hooks: If the PVD-plated stainless steel hooks lose their shine, clean them gently with a microfiber cloth. For tougher spots, use a mild soap solution and brush. Make sure to dry them completely afterward to avoid watermarks.
- Preserving the Amethyst Shine: To maintain the natural shine of the amethyst beads, avoid rubbing them against hard surfaces. Use a soft cloth to buff them lightly and restore their luster.
By following these care instructions, your Amethyst Earrings will remain beautiful and durable, allowing you to enjoy their elegant, natural beauty for many years.
Size Guide
Oathfeed Classic Design
6 & 10mm beads, in some cases the size of the stone beads may vary +-1mm.
Hook lengths range between 1cm basic hooks, 1.5+cm English Locks, 2cm silver hooks – refer to the product photos.
In newer designs, the stainless steel spacer daisies, bead caps and small beads contribute 3-4mm extra length (refer to product photo)
Weight Priciples
In principle I keep the weight below 5 grams per earring, so it doesn’t stretch or hurt your ears even if you wear it the whole day. Occasionally, for some designs, that weight limit exceeds by a gram – every pair has their specific weight marked under the overview tab.
Note that some earring hooks have thicker wires, and if you are not used to wearing earrings daily, using them will feel uncomfortable in the beginning.
