In principle I keep the weight below 5 grams per earring, so it doesn’t stretch or hurt your ears even if you wear it the whole day. Occasionally, for some designs, that weight limit exceeds by a gram – every pair has their specific weight marked under the general description or “dimensions” tab.
Kyanite is a striking, blade-like mineral that forms in metamorphic rocks, often as a result of high-pressure and low-temperature conditions deep within the Earth. Its name derives from the Greek word kyanos, meaning “blue,” reflecting its most common hue, though it can also appear in shades of green, black, and gray. Kyanite’s unique structure creates natural striations, giving it an elegant, fibrous appearance.
Primarily sourced from Brazil, Nepal, and the United States, kyanite’s formation requires precise geological conditions, making it a mineralogical marvel. Artisans polish it into beads or elongated shapes, showcasing its shimmering translucence and chatoyant qualities.
The name “kyanite” or cyanite links to its blue color, but in some contexts, it has been referred to as “disthene,” meaning “two strengths,” due to its anisotropic nature—harder along one axis and softer along another.
Kyanite shares mineralogical ties with: Andalusite: A polymorph of the same chemical composition but with a distinct crystalline structure. These stones share the transformative qualities of Earth’s intense pressures and temperatures. Sapphire: Another aluminum silicate, renowned for its hardness and vivid blue.
Kyanite’s allure extends into mythology and spiritual lore. Tibetan and Indian traditions regard it as a bridge between the physical and spiritual realms, a stone that facilitates alignment and balance. Kyanite is often seen as a conduit for inner harmony, assisting meditators in attuning to higher states of consciousness.
In metaphysical circles, kyanite resonates with the throat and third-eye chakras, promoting clear communication, intuition, and spiritual insight. It is considered a “self-cleansing” stone, meaning it doesn’t absorb negative energy and remains energetically pure.
Astrologically, kyanite is linked to Libra, fostering balance and harmonious relationships, and to Pisces, supporting spiritual exploration. Its energy aligns with Neptune and Mercury, encouraging intuition, creativity, and eloquence.
