Grey Moonstone – The Mystique of Moonlight

How Grey Moonstone Forms

Grey moonstone develops from the intergrowth of different feldspar types, which, as they cool, produce layers that cause light to scatter, creating the shimmer known as adularescence. This process happens within geological formations in the Earth’s crust.

A Little Bit of History

Moonstone, named for its moon-like sheen, has been cherished for millennia. In ancient India, it was sacred, symbolizing new beginnings and intuition. In Roman culture, it linked to the moon goddess Diana. Known also as “adularia,” grey moonstone has enjoyed use in jewelry, particularly during the art nouveau period, and as a protective talisman.

Mythological Associations

Grey moonstone connects to the moon, symbolizing mystery, intuition, and emotional balance. It enhances psychic abilities, calms the mind, and promotes inner peace, reflecting the moon’s enigmatic nature.

Cosmic Junction – Properties of Grey Moonstone Beads with Shimmer Effect

These beads feature a grey hue with a silver or sometimes bluish shimmer. They have a hardness of about 6 on the Mohs scale, making them suitable for jewelry. Metaphysically, grey moonstone helps in soothing emotions, enhancing intuition, and navigating through life’s cycles. It’s associated with the Third Eye and Crown Chakras, aiding in spiritual clarity and insight.

From Mining to Beads

Mining: Miners extract grey moonstone from deposits in Sri Lanka, India, and other countries like Madagascar.
Production into Beads:
Cutting and Shaping: Jewelers craft the raw moonstone into beads, choosing shapes that highlight the stone’s shimmer, such as rounds or cabochons.
Polishing: They polish the beads to enhance the adularescence, ensuring the light play is visible and the beads are durable for daily wear.

Care Guide

Cleaning:

  • Gently clean the beads with a soft, damp cloth after each wear to remove oils or debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals, detergents, or abrasives, as these can damage the bead’s surface.
  • Clean the hypoallergenic PVD-plated stainless steel hooks and findings with a soft cloth to maintain their finish.

Storage:

  • Store the earrings in a soft pouch or a separate compartment to protect the beads from scratches and to prevent the hooks and findings from tarnishing.
  • Avoid storing the earrings in extreme heat or humidity, as these conditions can affect the beads and plating.

Moisture & Chemicals:

  • Remove the earrings before swimming, bathing, or applying personal care products such as perfumes, hairspray, or lotions, as these substances can dull the beads’ shine and damage the plated metal.
  • Keep the earrings away from strong chemicals like household cleaners or chlorine.

Handling:

  • Handle the earrings with care, holding the metal components rather than pulling on the pearls to avoid unnecessary strain on the findings.
  • Be mindful when wearing or removing them to prevent the beads from coming into contact with sharp objects or rough surfaces that could scratch their surface.

Repairs (if necessary):

  • If the hooks or findings become damaged, or if the pearls loosen, consult a professional jeweler for repairs. Do not attempt to fix them yourself to avoid causing additional damage.

By following these care instructions, your Stainless Earrings will retain their beauty and luster for years to come.

Weight Priciples

In principle I keep the weight below 5 grams per earring, so it doesn’t stretch or hurt your ears even if you wear it the whole day. Occasionally, for some designs, that weight limit exceeds by a gram – every pair has their specific weight marked under the overview tab.

Note that some earring hooks have thicker wires, and if you are not used to wearing earrings daily, using them will feel uncomfortable in the beginning.
