Durability

  • Idocrase Vesuvianite Beads: Idocrase (also known as vesuvianite) is a relatively durable semi-precious stone, but it is still susceptible to scratching and chipping if exposed to rough surfaces or heavy impact. Its hardness (6.5–7 on the Mohs scale) provides moderate protection but should be handled with care to preserve its smooth surface and vibrant color.
  • Antique Copper-Style Brass Findings: Brass is a strong material that can withstand daily wear, but it is prone to tarnishing over time. With exposure to moisture, it may develop a patina. Regular care will help preserve its shine.

Suitability

  • Casual Wear: The earthy tones of idocrase vesuvianite make these earrings perfect for adding a touch of color to your everyday outfits. They complement casual styles such as bohemian, earthy, or natural looks.
  • Special Occasions: These earrings can transition well from casual to more formal settings due to their unique design and color, making them a good choice for semi-formal events or casual evening outings.

Storage

  • Store the earrings in a soft pouch, jewelry box, or hermetic bag to protect the beads from scratches and prevent dust buildup.
  • Keep the earrings in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity to preserve the integrity of the stone and brass findings.

Cleaning

  • Idocrase Vesuvianite Beads: Use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe the beads and remove dust or oils. If needed, you can slightly dampen the cloth with water to clean off more stubborn dirt, but avoid soaking the beads.
  • Brass Findings: To maintain the antique copper appearance, gently clean the brass findings with a jewelry polishing cloth. Avoid abrasive materials, as they can scratch the surface and remove the patina. For heavier tarnish, a specialized brass cleaner can be used, but proceed with caution.
  • General Care: Be mindful of not getting perfumes, lotions, or hair products on the earrings, as these substances can damage both the stone and the metal.

General Care Tips

  • Avoid wearing these earrings in the shower, pool, or in high humidity, as moisture can damage the brass findings and affect the stone.
  • Handle the earrings carefully to avoid any sharp impacts that could chip or crack the vesuvianite beads.

Oathfeed Classic Two-Bead Design

6 & 10mm beads, in some cases the size of the stone beads may vary +-1mm.

Hook lengths range between 1cm basic hooks, 1.5+cm English Locks, 2cm silver hooks – refer to the product photos.

On Earrings’ Weight Principles

In principle I keep the weight below 5 grams per earring, so it doesn’t stretch or hurt your ears even if you wear it the whole day. Occasionally, for some designs, that weight limit exceeds by a gram – every pair has their specific weight marked under the general description or “dimensions” tab.

Vesuvianite – The Stone of Inner Journey

Vesuvianite, with its spectrum from green to brown, yellow, or blue, is a calcium-aluminum silicate mineral named after its discovery near Mount Vesuvius in Italy. Also known by alternative names such as Idocrase, Dupracite, Genevite, Jefreinoffite, and Gahnite, this gemstone is found in places like Canada, Russia, and the United States. Lab-grown vesuvianite would aim to mimic these natural colors and patterns but is less common due to its complex composition.

Etymology

Named “vesuvianite” after its discovery site, Mount Vesuvius, “idocrase” comes from the Greek words “eidos” (form) and “krasis” (mixture), referring to its varied crystal forms. The other names (Dupracite, Genevite, Jefreinoffite, Gahnite) reflect either historical or local nomenclature.

Cosmic Junction

Vesuvianite resonates with earth energies, linked to the heart chakra for emotional healing and the third eye chakra for insight. Its metaphysical properties include:

Cultural Symbolism: In contemporary metaphysical practices, vesuvianite is seen as a stone of exploration, both of the self and the environment, embodying the spirit of adventure and the quest for knowledge.

Historical Use in Jewelry: While not deeply embedded in ancient mythologies, vesuvianite has been appreciated for its beauty, often used in ornamental pieces, suggesting a connection to nature’s creativity and transformation.

Modern Crystal Healing: Vesuvianite is celebrated for aiding in personal growth, clearing negative patterns, and enhancing spiritual awareness. It’s thought to help one recognize and embrace their true desires, fostering a journey inward towards self-discovery.
