In principle I keep the weight below 5 grams per earring, so it doesn’t stretch or hurt your ears even if you wear it the whole day. Occasionally, for some designs, that weight limit exceeds by a gram – every pair has their specific weight marked under the general description or “dimensions” tab.
Maw-Sit-Sit is a vibrant green metamorphic rock composed of a mix of minerals, including jadeite, kosmochlor, albite, and chromite. Its striking emerald and forest-green shades, often interwoven with black veining or white streaks, give it a unique, dynamic appearance. The material forms under intense geological pressure in serpentinite deposits, particularly in Myanmar (Burma), its sole known source.
Although sometimes called “Maw-Sit-Sit Jasper,” it is not a true jasper but a close cousin of jadeite, prized for its rarity and exotic beauty. Artisans skillfully carve and polish Maw-Sit-Sit into cabochons and beads, revealing its glossy surface and intricate patterns.
The name “Maw-Sit-Sit” comes from the village in Myanmar near its primary deposit, emphasizing its geographical exclusivity. It is occasionally labeled as a type of jade due to its mineral composition, though its texture and patterns distinguish it.
Maw-Sit-Sit shares its lineage with:
Jadeite: Its closest relative, known for its smooth texture and rich colors.
Nephrite Jade: Another member of the jade family, typically softer and less varied in color.
Its chromite inclusions and kosmochlor content lend Maw-Sit-Sit its vibrant green tones, setting it apart from other jades.
Maw-Sit-Sit has been revered for its energizing and life-affirming properties. Burmese traditions view it as a talisman of vitality, believed to bring luck and strength to those who wear it. It has been associated with renewal and connection to nature, its vivid green evoking fertile landscapes and verdant growth.
In metaphysical circles, Maw-Sit-Sit aligns with the heart chakra, inspiring courage, love, and emotional healing. It is said to help balance energy flows, promoting harmony between the physical and emotional realms.
