Agate

Agate – The Earth’s Timeless Guardian

Agate is nature’s art piece, formed over thousands of years in the hollow pockets of ancient lava. Silica-rich water seeps into these cavities, leaving behind layers of quartz that harden into colorful bands. Each layer reflects the minerals present during its formation, creating one-of-a-kind patterns.

It is mined in places like Brazil, India, and Madagascar, where rough agate geodes are unearthed from volcanic landscapes. Artisans shape these stones into smooth beads or faceted designs, ready to add earthy elegance to jewelry.

Etymology

The name “agate” comes from the Achates River in Sicily, where the ancient Greeks first uncovered its beauty. Known historically as the “eye stone,” agate’s concentric rings were seen as protective, symbolizing vigilance and divine oversight.

Cosmic Junction

Agate plays a prominent role in myths and traditions across cultures. In Mesopotamia, people carried agate amulets engraved with gods like Enki, the deity of wisdom and water, believing the stone offered protection during travel.

In ancient Persia, agate was a shield against storms and the evil eye. Warriors of antiquity often wore it as a talisman for courage and victory. The Egyptians crafted agate into scarabs and other sacred objects, associating it with Ra, the sun god, as a source of vitality.

Agate aligns with the planet Mercury, embodying adaptability, communication, and intellect. It is often tied to Gemini and Virgo in astrology, amplifying mental clarity and helping wearers stay grounded.

Medieval European texts linked agate to alchemical traditions, describing its ability to balance emotional energy and neutralize poison. In Chinese folklore, agate symbolized harmony and was used in rituals to balance the body’s yin and yang. Each type reflects the influence of specific impurities and the unique environmental conditions in which it formed. Unlike manmade glass, agate’s charm lies in its imperfections and natural beauty. It is mined in places like Brazil, India, and Madagascar, where rough agate geodes are unearthed from volcanic landscapes. Artisans shape these stones into smooth beads or faceted designs, ready to add earthy elegance to jewelry.

Caring for Your Agate

Agate is tough yet sensitive to neglect. Its hardness, ranging from 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, resists most scratches, but a hard drop can chip or crack it. Prolonged sun exposure might fade its vibrant bands, while harsh chemicals can dull its shine.

To clean your agate jewelry, gently wipe it with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly. For deeper cleaning, use mild soap and warm water, but avoid soaking. Store it separately in a soft pouch to protect it from scratches and impact.

Stainless Steel

Stainless Steel | Steel Finish

Material Composition: My earrings feature jewelry-grade fish/french hooks made from high-grade stainless steel, typically types 304 or 316L. These types are known for their high corrosion resistance and hypoallergenic properties.

Manufacturing Process:

  • Material Selection: High-quality stainless steel is chosen for durability.
  • Wire Drawing: The steel is drawn into thin wire.
  • Cutting & Shaping: The wire is cut and shaped into hooks.
  • Polishing & Finishing: The hooks are polished for a smooth finish.
  • Quality Control: Each hook is inspected to meet jewelry standards.

Why They Don’t Oxidize

Thanks to the high chromium content, a protective chromium oxide layer forms on the surface, preventing rust. Molybdenum in 316L stainless steel provides extra protection against corrosion.

Magnetic Properties

Your stainless steel earrings may be slightly magnetic due to the manufacturing process, which can alter the steel’s crystal structure. This does not affect their quality or safety.

Hypoallergenic Assurance

The nickel in stainless steel is encapsulated by the chromium oxide layer, preventing it from coming into contact with your skin and reducing the risk of allergies.

Care Tips:

  • Cleaning: Use mild soap and warm water. Dry thoroughly.
  • Avoid Harsh Environments: Keep away from chemicals and prolonged exposure to water.
  • Storage: Store in a dry place, preferably in a jewelry pouch or box.
  • Handling: Avoid lotions, perfumes, and hair products before wearing.

By choosing these stainless steel earrings, you’re opting for durability, style, and safety. The materials are chosen not only for their aesthetic appeal but also for their health-friendly properties, ensuring you can wear your jewelry with comfort and confidence.

Oathfeed Classic Design

6 & 10mm beads, in some cases the size of the stone beads may vary +-1mm.

Weight Priciples

In principle I keep the weight below 5 grams per earring, so it doesn’t stretch or hurt your ears even if you wear it the whole day. Occasionally, for some designs, that weight limit exceeds by a gram – every pair has their specific weight marked under the overview tab.

Note that some earring hooks have thicker wires, and if you are not used to wearing earrings daily, using them will feel uncomfortable in the beginning.
