Rose Quartz  Information

Rose quartz is a gentle stone in the quartz family. Its colour typically ranges from pale pink to rosy red – arising from traces of titanium, iron, or manganese within its structure. Rose quartz is a go-to gemstone in jewelry and décor, especially for those seeking a warm, soothing aesthetic.

Fashion and Jewelry

Rose quartz’s delicate color and transparency make it popular in various types of jewelry. This gemstone complements silver and rose gold settings, adding a romantic, feminine touch. Its subtle elegance suits a wide range of styles, from minimalist to boho-chic, making it versatile for everyday wear or special occasions. Rose quartz is especially popular for bead jewelry for earrings, bracelets, and pendants.

History, Mythology, and Symbolism

Throughout history, rose quartz has been the “Stone of Love.” Ancient Egyptians used it for facial masks, believing it would promote beauty and youthfulness. In Greek and Roman mythology, rose quartz was a symbol of love and reconciliation, created by the blood of the lovers Adonis and Aphrodite. Rose Quartz associates with emotional healing, compassion, and relationships, making it a favored stone for promoting self-love and harmony.

Mining, Production, and Applications

Rose quartz is typically mined from pegmatite deposits and is abundantly found in Brazil, Madagascar, India, and South Africa. It scores a 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it a resilient choice for jewelry. After mining, the stone undergoes a cutting and polishing process to enhance its natural shine and color. Craftsmen and jewelers shape rose quartz into beads, cabochons, and carvings for decorative use. Beyond its use in jewelry, rose quartz has a longstanding reputation in metaphysical practices for its emotional benefits, often used in meditation or as a healing stone.

Care Guide

Cleaning:

  • Gently wipe the semi-precious stone beads (such as chalcedony, amethyst, carnelian, rose quartz, etc.) and stainless steel components with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasives, or jewelry cleaners that could harm the stones or tarnish the metal.
  • Be sure to clean around the pin and hole of the bead carefully to prevent buildup that may affect the appearance or functionality of the earrings.

Bead Care:

  • The beads are securely mounted onto stainless steel pins, and since there is no glue used, the beads are unlikely to detach. However, it is still advisable to periodically check the beads and pins for any signs of wear or looseness.
  • Avoid placing excessive pressure on the beads or pins, as this may cause them to shift or break.

Storage:

  • Store your earrings in a soft pouch, jewelry box, or separate compartment to prevent scratching or damaging the beads and metal components.
  • Keep the earrings in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, moisture, and temperature extremes to preserve their integrity.

Moisture & Chemicals:

  • Always remove earrings before swimming, bathing, or applying personal care products like perfume, hairspray, or lotions. Moisture or chemicals can degrade the metal and dull the natural luster of the stones.
  • Avoid exposing the earrings to extreme humidity or excessive sweat, as this could damage both the stones and the metal over time.

Handling:

  • Handle the earrings with care when putting them on or taking them off, holding the metal stud and not the stone to avoid damaging the bead or shifting the pin.
  • Be cautious when wearing them to avoid snagging on clothing or other objects, which could cause the stones or pins to loosen.

Repairs (if necessary):

  • If the bead or pin shows signs of damage or becomes loose, it’s best to have the earrings professionally repaired by a jeweler. Attempting repairs yourself may result in further damage.
  • To replace or repair the pins, it is recommended to seek a professional who can properly re-attach or replace the pin without compromising the bead’s integrity.

By following these care instructions, your stud earrings will remain beautiful and secure, allowing you to enjoy their elegance for years to come.

Weight Priciples

In principle I keep the weight below 5 grams per earring, so it doesn’t stretch or hurt your ears even if you wear it the whole day. Occasionally, for some designs, that weight limit exceeds by a gram – every pair has their specific weight marked under the overview tab.

Note that some earring hooks have thicker wires, and if you are not used to wearing earrings daily, using them will feel uncomfortable in the beginning.
